I create my art from a feeling of deep alienation within a society dominated by consumerism and shiny facades. Through my self portraits and performances I attempt to make this alienation visible and at the same time reveal what's underneath the surface of our hyper-functional reality.
The solitude of abandoned places and left-behind objects often serve as the perfect playground for my carefully staged work. I like to playfully undermine everyday consumer culture. I decorate food items with toxic household chemicals, fusing mass consumption with an aesthetic of visceral disgust. By placing myself in bizarre scenarios, I try to make sense of what feels senseless to me. Human routines, social structures and fixed meanings turn into absurdity. Reality becomes surreality.
On the one hand, my work uses elements of extreme high-glamour and artificial perfection. Yet, I let that collide with exactly what the functional world represses: ruins, blood, decay, and the absurd. It is the creation of an opulent horror.
My work is for those who understand the feeling of being a stranger in a constructed reality. It serves as a visual home for the outsiders who seek beauty in the mundane and truth in the absurd.
Ina Gersuny (*1998 in Schwerin, Germany) is a contemporary performance and photography artist best known for her highly stylised, absurd self-portraits and object arrangements that investigate the uncanny intersections of alienation and consumer culture.
Her visually striking work utilizes extreme high glamour aesthetics, intense color contrasts and a clean, flash-lit precision. This artificial perfection is often set against raw elements of decay and visceral disgust.
Gersuny‘s artistic practice centers on the concept of opulent horror, a deliberate
subversion of reality that playfully explores the feeling of being an outsider in a
hyper-functional society. By placing her own body and everyday objects (such
as food items, pearls, colorful dish soap) into bizarre scenarios, she transforms
mundane human routines into theatrical narratives that gradually reveal a more
unsettling undertone.
Gersuny‘s professional background consists of studying art history and film in
Berlin as well as Costume and Make-up Design at the BSP Berlin. In 2024 she
held a major solo exhibition at Galerie Mond Fine Arts in Berlin, showcasing her body of work created since 2018. Following her participation in a group exhibi-
tion at Global Art Gallery Berlin in 2025, she presented her next solo exhibition at Galerie Art Nova in March 2026.
Simultaneously, Gersuny cultivates a strong digital presence, sharing her performances and daily interventions on social media. Over time, she has gathered a supportive community that resonates with her unique approach to reality.
