I create my art from a feeling of deep alienation within a society dominated by consumerism and shiny facades. Through my self portraits and performances I attempt to make this alienation visible and at the same time reveal what's underneath the surface of our hyper-functional reality.
Crucial to my practice is the dissolution of boundaries between life and art. I frame my own body and highly stylized everyday presence as a living canvas and disruptive performance within the urban space.
The solitude of abandoned places and left-behind objects often serve as the perfect playground for my carefully staged work. I playfully undermine everyday consumer culture. I decorate food items with toxic household chemicals, fusing mass consumption with an aesthetic of visceral disgust. By placing myself in bizarre scenarios, I try to make sense of what feels senseless to me. Human routines, social structures and fixed meanings turn into absurdity.
On the one hand, my work uses elements of extreme high-glamour and artificial perfection. Yet, I let that collide with exactly what the functional world represses: ruins, blood, decay, and the absurd. It is the creation of an opulent horror.
My work is for those who understand the feeling of being a stranger in a constructed reality. It serves as a visual home for the outsiders who seek beauty in the mundane and truth in the absurd.
Ina Gersuny (*1998) lives and works as a contemporary performance and photo artist in Berlin.
Born in rural Northern Germany, Gersuny first began studying art history and film in Berlin. She soon developed a strong interest in staged photography, initially taking absurd self-portraits and videos in her dorm room at night to upload them to Instagram. Later, she studied Costume and Make-up Design at the BSP Berlin, blending her love for fashion with the desire to tell deep stories about the world.
This professional background ultimately led to her first solo exhibition in 2024 at Galerie Mond Fine Arts in Berlin, where she showcased her body of work created since 2018, alongside a live performance at the gallery.
Simultaneously, Gersuny cultivates a strong digital presence, sharing her performances and daily interventions in urban spaces. Over time, she has gathered a supportive community that resonates with her unique approach to the world.
Following her participation in a group exhibition at Global Art Gallery in Berlin in 2025, she presented her next major solo exhibition at Galerie Nova in March 2026.
